Blog #5: A Week in Review: Work Hard and Play Accordingly

This Actress@Play made it through another week made up of 10,080 New York minutes, and it feels like a finger snap. Two auditions, two improv classes, five insanity workouts, two runs, a business class, a BUNCH of computer work, an incredible day on set, ballet class, and time spent with my best friend wrap up this crazy week. Things move so quickly that it can feel like everything and nothing are happening at the same time. New York can be very overstimulating, overwhelming, and overpowering. What helps me balance the chaos are focused work times and focused play times that still positively move me toward my goals. Acknowledging that the auditions, improv and dance classes are in fact work, helped immensely. I love and appreciate doing these things, and realize that feeling this way is a gift and one of the reasons I love being an actor. To balance out "work" time, I schedule time to spend with friends, read, and meditate. All cultivate so much joy and keep me on track towards my dreams. (Shout out to all the calm rain/ sleep tracks on Spotify! LOVE the variety).

If you find yourself overwhelmed by the work week hustle, I strongly recommend taking a page outta Annie Oakley's book: "take stock of what you have" and celebrate the big and small successes you've achieved this week. It's Saturday! Find a way to celebrate these achievements in a way that will continue moving you forward.

xoxo, Abby
